Sunday morning February 5, 2012 saw a welcome return of a few basic elements we tend to take for granted as surfers in Sydney: sunshine and swell.
On the back of two consecutive La Nina summers we have become accustomed to prolonged periods of persistent onshore winds, rain and fleeting wind swells in Sydney and surrounds; however Sunday morning saw a welcome return to form.
A solid four-to-five foot plus, 11-12 second easterly swell combined with sunshine and light offshore westerly winds to turn on a memorable morning session pretty much right up and down the East Coast.
Coming out of the coldest December in 50 years and the wettest January in 11 years Sunday morning crowds were solid, but no one was complaining. The only bummer was a big morning high tide limited tube time on the point and reef breaks, but the beachies were super fun. Look out for a more comprehensive feature on the first clean swell of 2012 in Sydney in the coming days.
