The Playing Field - Manly Beach


Manly is a special place in Australian Surfing. Since the sport was introduced to our waters almost a century ago around the corner at Freshwater, it’s been a training ground for World Champions, a proving ground for early big-wave riders, and a mainstay for locals and visiting surfers alike.

As Manly gears up to host the Hurley Australian open of surfing, former World Champ Barton Lynch takes a tour of one of Sydney’s premier surfing beaches…
