Hawaii: December 10, 2008

Hawaii Wednesday December 10, 2008. An Aussie made a slice of history toady at the Pipe Masters. Parko joined the elite club of scoring two perfect 10's in a contest. The ironic thing was that Kelly Slater who is also a member of that elite club was in the next heat and was on the water line ready to paddle out when Parko emerged from the water. The two shook hands and shared a joke before Parko was mobbed by the press and fans.
Shane Beschen is the other member of the club with with three 10's scored at Kirra during The old Billabong Pro.

The surf dropped overnight to around 4'-5' and swung more to the north. I figure that the organisers of the Pipe Masters wanted to run today because there is a ' big and nasty' storm heading our way. It could have been called the' Backdoor Masters' because there were virtually no lefts, but the rights were firing. It was barrel after barrel on the rights.
Just a few meters down the beach, Off The Wall was providing plenty of entertainment in it's own right.
OTW was dishing up some crazy, dredging close outs, with plenty of crew ready to pull in on every wave. Due to the north swell direction it was almost double the size of Backdoor.

Hellman Garrett McNamara paddled out on an old Lightning Bolt gun without a legrope and pulled into barrel after barrel. He did a lot of swimming but also scored some sick pits. The magical moment of the day was a double rainbow whilst Garrett was dragging his board along the sand.
The downside today was news of the approaching Kona storm. According to all reports we need to build an Ark because tempestuous weather is heading our way. There are all sorts of warnings in place for Thursday. High Wind Advisory, Severe Wind Warning, Gale Warning, Flash Flood Warning etc, etc. They love this stuff here. Basically it means that we wont be shooting tomorrow. Mahalo Peter 'Joli' Wilson
