Surf Report Info

Region: South West Rocks to Forster - Tuncurry

Reporters location:

Coastalwatch surf reporters are the saltiest locals around. Part fish, part shark, part human, they live for the waves and are usually more local than the locals. They’ll be up before dawn waiting for first light to reveal the days surf conditions and can sense a change of wind from a sparrows fart. Each reporter covers a region of coastline which includes many number of surf spots and beaches. Please consider there may be possible variations between this report and your local spot due to differences in orientation to the coast and any local idiosyncrasies that may also effect the swell and weather patterns.

    Today's rating - Pretty Good

A southerly wind is producing clean conditions on the southern headlands. The swell is SE and solid. Open beaches are big and messy. Main breaks around town will be the pick with good waves all day. Wind will back off during the day so the late afternoon surf check could producing a few surprises. Points north of Port will be worth the drive. For surf lessons and board hire contact Port Macquarie Surf School on 6584 7733

Marine Outlook

A low pressure system lies over the Tasman Sea with a trough extending from the low back towards the NSW north coast. The low and trough are expected to move fairly rapidly away to the east during Saturday. In their wake a strong high pressure system will move over southeastern Australia during the weekend to become the dominant influence into the new week. As the low moves away and the high becomes established southerly winds will gradually ease.
Winds: Southerly 20 to 25 knots, reaching up to 30 knots in the morning.
Seas: 2 to 3 metres, decreasing to 1.5 to 2 metres around midday.
Swell: Southerly 3 to 4 metres, decreasing to 2.5 to 3 metres by early evening. Weather: Partly cloudy. 70% chance of showers. Caution: Large and powerful surf conditions are expected to be hazardous for coastal activities such as crossing bars by boat and rock fishing.
