RED BULL CAPE FEAR | Partner Event

CONGRATULATIONS RUSSELL BIERKE!

The waves were black as black and thundered a solemn, deep rumble on approach to the furthest point on the southern Sydney heads. Cape Solander lit up after 48 hours of solid rainfall, wind and coastal erosion. Day one on Monday 6 June, lay down some of the most insane slabbing waves ever surfed in an event. The intensity was next level as surfers, families, friends the media bit their nails down. 16 surfers getting tossed and thrashed and slammed over 2-foot of water onto a rock shelf.

Russell Bierke caught just two amazing waves on day one but they were enough to secure his place into the second round on day two and the final that he set on FIRE!

"Yesterday was really, really scary, just mind-blowing. I'm glad everyone survived and got some bombs." Said Bierke. "Everyone here has made this the best surf event ever. Mark, the safety team, production - thank you. I was stoked to have my family here, it didn't feel like a contest because everyone was so stoked out there. It was just a dream. My 10-was crazy, I was glad it held up...it was the best view ever."

"When he could only just stand up he was surfing over the tidepools. I'm extremely proud of him and everyone else for surviving this event." Russ's mum Leane Bierke said from the sidelines.

Russ does what he wants to do and always has. He just likes pushing the envelopes... We'll just see what happens next." Kirk Bierke, Russ's Dad, big wave surfer, and shaper said.

Contest Director and big wave surfer Mark Mathews breathed a sigh of relief as Bierke and the three other finalists, Ryan Hipwood (2014 winner), Kobi Abberton and James Adams made their way back across the rock shelf of the bluff and up to the safety of the event site. "To finish it off like this was amazing, the was one of the craziest surf events in history."

Thank you Mark Mathews, for pushing this incredible event through.
