In June 2016, Lachie Rombouts paddled into one of the biggest waves ever surfed at Avalon Beach on Sydney's Northern Beaches. Apart from a similar swell in the '70s, there have been nearly no other occasions recorded of surfers taking on these enormous waves. This previously unseen footage shot by Avalon filmmaker Bruce Blake, brings to life the wave that was watched by over a hundred locals on the southern headland and northern carpark that morning. It was the day that a local became a legend. It was a wave that the late Midget Farrelly described as a "Really special wave."
