We're stoked! Ethan Ewing of Stradbroke Island and Macy Callaghan of Avoca have both become the newest World Surfing Champions. The pair have together, won title after title over the last few years and have earned the respect of the Australian and international surfing community with this incredible skill and drive to be the best.

On Monday 9 January 2017, Ewing and Callaghan were both chaired up the beach at Bombo Beach in Kiama, south of Sydney. They were both presented with their WSL World Junior Championship trophies and hoisted them in their air.

For Ewing, 2017 will be one of firsts on the world stage as he jumps onto the World Championship Tour for his rookie year. Kicking it off as World Junior Champion is just the start. The grom has a huge future.

“I never planned on any of this happening this year,” Ewing said after his win. “I did aim to win the JQS but everything else just kind of happened unexpectedly. This is a great way to start my year off and I can’t wait for the start of the CT.”

Callaghan will continue her quest as a Qualifying Series surfer in 2017, but will no doubt follow Ewing promptly in the big league. The Central Coast surfer defeated Hawaiian World Junior veteran, Mahina Maeda in the finals with her trademark vertical and dynamic surfing.

“I’m so excited, this is the biggest event I have ever been in so to win is amazing,” Callaghan said. “That heat was really tricky, there wasn’t a huge amount of waves so you really had to pick the good ones. Once I got the 8.17 I knew I was in a good position and could just keep building on it, then my confidence just kept building. 2016 was so amazing for me so to start off this year like this is just a dream, I can’t wait for what lies ahead.”

Congratulations to our newest World Champs!
