It’s no longer a secret that the western European Atlantic coast pulls in some of the biggest rideable surf on earth. But it’s around this time of year, in the depths of the northern-hemi winter, that the storm-track often penetrate too far south for comfort; rendering the entire western coastlines of France, Spain and Portugal awash in huge, onshore storm-swell. That’s exactly what’s about to unfold across the region over the next few days as a heavy swell-event batters the region; arriving compliments of an intense low pressure system that’s been tracking steadily eastward on a collision course with western Portuguese coast.

While most surfers across Western Europe have little choice but to batten down the hatches and wait out the brunt of the storm-swell, there is a silver lining to all this chaos found further south. The western coast of Morocco comes to life during the northern hemisphere winter; usually transforming these swell-events into long right-hand lines of perfection. Having said that, Friday’s peak in size will see heavy surf at most breaks – particularly across the northern half of the Moroccan coast.
