The Standout Sessions Competition

We are on the hunt for Australia's best surf session yarns... we want your stories, the ones about your best surf sessions. Not everyone is a pro surfer with a tall tale about 90-foot Puerto barrels, but we all get stoked when we have an epic session and we all have a story. It's those stories we want to hear - your personal standout session that keeps the fire burning.

You can use good ol' words, a gopro video edit, some photos or, you could go mad and use all 3 combined to really blwo our minds.

We are sending the person with the best entry surfing in the Maldives with a mate on a luxury boat. How good is that! It's a trip of a lifetime - and who wouldn't want to go to the Malidves - we do! The trip comes courtesy of our legendary partners The Perfect Wave.

To get you inspired here are some of the photos and stories from around Australia we have received so far...

Jason Davies: My standout session was on a trip with 2 good mates to West Sumbawa at Tropical beach resort. The location was Scar reef. The conditions were looking really small out on the reef but as we had made the journey we decided to take a look anyway. Whilst out there a small pulse came through and things started to get really fun. It was just me and 2 great mates, tropical water not a cloud in the sky exchanging waves, hooting, laughing and having the surf session off a life time. For me that’s what surfing’s all about. A big shout out to CoastalwatchPlus for the location and thanks to the Perfect Wave for getting us there.

Damien Palmer: Three years ago I told my mates I was booking a trip to P-Pass. They all laughed at how far away I was planning my next surf trip but I had myreasons. Three shoulder dislocations, six months of pre-hab, shouldersurgery, one year out of the water and six months of intense re-hab laterand I would be ready for my goal, Palikir. My mate and I took a gamble and booked with two little bumps on the forecast. Turns out the second bump would become the biggest swell sincethe Dorian swell. We are both terrified, completely out of our league and experience level but f**k-it we've got no choice but to have a dig. I have never seen or caught waves even close to this and is easily the bestsession we have ever been a part of. It was the fairytale surf trip. What we didn't know at the time is my mate at 30 years of age, full of life and good health was beginning the battle of his life with a very advanced and aggressive cancer. In hindsight it has made that session even more special.

Darren Gracie: In 2014 I received a kidney transplant. Every day I would be on Coastalwatch checking Surfcams, Wave Of the Week, Stand Out Sessionsand always looked forward to This Week in Surfing. It was the photo section on Coastalwatch that introduce me to the Maldives. Late 2014 I booked 10 days at Lohis. I’d seen all the pictures; I’d read all the reports. I just wanted one good day like the pictures. Quote, ‘good waves every day for an entire month’ (Richard Kotch). Day 8, I'd surfed every day. I sat on the Lohis deck to kick back. No chance, it was just like the pictures, perfect waves, no one out. I surfed 6 hrs.

Miles Niddrie: We had a family trip to Diggers beach, Coffs Harbour. My eldest rode the best wave of her surfing life so far. Open face 2.5ft wave which she put together a great combination of speed turns and little snaps. Wave went for about 50mtrs and she pulled out with her hands above her head, STOKED!
