Saturday morning at Bondi is usually a busy affair, but with the Boost Mobile Surfsho in town, yesterday morning the place was pumping. At least on the beach. Out in the water the surf was not huge, but with 32 of Australia’s best aerial surfers vying for one of the two wildcards into today’s final, there was no shortage of action.

Ben Godwin was the man of the moment, picking up an 8.67 for a front-side air-reverse, to take out the Trials final and move into today’s main event alongside fellow wildcard recipient Beau Foster and junior winner Gabriel Medina. They’ll face some of the worlds best surfers, including Jordy Smith, Taj Burrow and Owen Wright for the $25,000 first prize.

Aside from the main event, the celebrity challenge saw some famous faces floating around the Bondi Lineup. Home & Away stars David Jones-Roberts and Luke Mitchell and boxer Danny Green were just some of Australia’s most prominent television and sports celebrities who joined forces with the world’s best surfer, including Taj Burrow and Jordy Smith, to compete for $5,000 prize-money for their chosen charity.
Highlights included Josh Kerr’s nine-point ride by and Kitchen Whiz presenter Beau Walker’s air reverse, helped his team to victory and earning $5,000 for charity Coastcare, whose volunteers help keep Australia’s beaches clean by identifying environmental problems and working together to achieve practical solutions.

The Boost Mobile SurfSho resumes 8am Today with the Wheel Rounds – where a wheel spun at the start of each heat determines which tricks the surfers must perform. Letters are awarded for each successful maneuver and the six highest scored surfers who spell ‘BOOST’ go into the final.

There will also be a jet-ski tow-in expression session and a free live concert from 3.30pm featuring Georgia Fair and Kingtide.

Head down to Bondi to watch the action unfold live, or go to the event website for more information...
