The largest annual girl’s surfing participation days began today on beaches right around Australia as girls of all ages took to the surf at the annual Rip Curl Girls Go Surfing Days presented by Ford Fiesta.

The Rip Curl Girls Go Surfing Day is the longest running and largest girl’s surfing day in Australia and over 60 of Surfing Australia’s Affiliated Surfschools are offering girls of all ages the opportunity to go surfing.

Zoe McGrath , 13 years old from Palm Beach on the Gold Coast was typical of the girls surfing today – It was Zoe’s first time ever surfing but it certainly won’t be the last “ This has been fantastic! I can’t believe how much fun surfing is and I’m a surfer for life for sure – I’ll be back for more and more lessons!”

Zoe joined the Rip Curl Girls Go Surfing session at Currumbin Beach today which was put on by the Surfing Australia affiliated Surf School known as Surfing Services Australia – Head Coach Rachael Cowley said her full time job as a surfcoach is the best job in the world and commented on the success of today’s program saying “ The girls have had so much fun – It takes days like this for learners to realize just how fast you can learn to surf – the surfschools have specialized equipment and well trained instructors and we can fast track everyone to becoming surfers - most everyone are up and riding waves during their first lesson and more than half of todays participants will be back for more and more lessons – It’s an awesome job teaching people to surf, especially the girls today!”

2008 is the event’s 18th consecutive year, making it the longest running and largest all-girls learn to surf program in the world and approximately 4000 girls are expected to go and give surfing a go this weekend under the safe and ideal learning environments of the Surfing Australia Surf Schools.

A few of the well known beaches and surf schools that began the program today include Coolangatta, Noosa, Clarkes Beach at Byron Bay, Manly, Bondi and Torquay.

This year Rip Curl and Ford Fiesta have partnered to offer people the chance to the win the “Ultimate Beach Trip” and hang out with World Champion Stephanie Gilmore at the Rip Curl Pro 2009 at Bells Beach. For all the details on how to enter log onto www.ripcurl.com.au/ggsd
