Current ratings leader Nick Squiers (North Wollongong, NSW) will be the man in the hot seat this weekend as he looks at claiming his maiden Hurley NSW Championship Circuit crown at Werri Beach.

Werri Beach will be the backdrop to final event on the Hurley NSW Championship Circuit calendar as the curtain closes on Australia’s premier domestic Circuit this weekend.

As the sixth, and final leg, on the prestigious Hurley NSW Championship Circuit, the Zink South Coast Pro will once again see the state’s best Open, and junior men battling it out for the overall series title – a race that is extremely tight in both division’s.

Led by two local chargers in the Open division – Nick Squiers (North Wollongong, NSW) and Rhys Bombaci (Kiama Downs, NSW), who occupy first and second place respectively on the ratings, the title has every chance of staying on the South Coast.

Having been the most consistent competitor all year, Squiers knows the importance of the job at hand with a mere 200 points separating himself and Bombaci.

“I’ve had a really good start to year, but have fallen in a heap somewhat over the past three events,” he admitted.

“But, all of that goes out the window this weekend – I need a good result and so does Rhys, so it’ll be interesting what unfolds.”

Having always been recognised as a standout around the Illawarra region, Squiers has adopted a more serious approach this year and the benefits show for themselves.

“I’ve been concentrating a lot more on my surfing this year,” he continued.

“Training and really looking after my body to maximise the results in the water has been a goal of mine.”

Always drawing a field of amazing competitors, Squiers realises that it will not be just a showdown between himself and Bombaci.

“The level of talent that has popped up to these events this year has been first-class.”

“It definitely has pushed me and if your not on your game, you’ll get knocked first heat,” he added.

Having already seen epic conditions and mind-blowing performances in the previous five Hurley NSW Championship Circuit events, the prestigious Circuit is also drawing towards the business end of the year for the Cadet division.

With a showdown set for the overall Circuit title between current ratings leader Cooper Chapman (North Narrabeen, NSW) and Jake Sylvester (Bar Beach, NSW), who have been locked into an intense battle throughout the year, the Zink South Coast Pro will be one not to be missed.

The winner of the Hurley NSW Championship Circuit will also receive an additional $1000 and the Cadet winner $500.
