The Pass, yeah some people are so totally over it, but clearly there's a lot of stoke in the water at one of Australia's most fun points.

Ten Things From Surfing and The Internet On The Week That Was June 19, 2015

1. Owen Wright Achieved Surfing Greatness

Wow. Just wow. What's there to say that hasn't already been said about this incredible performance? Owen Wright this week took out what will be hard pressed to be topped as the contest of the year, in perfect Cloudbreak. On his way to the win he notched the seventh perfect heat ever, and then he notched the eight pefect heat ever in the final against Julian Wilson. He's now the only guy to score two perfect heats in the one contest. And every score was completely warranted. This event was Owen's. That final day was Owen's. And this place in history will now forever be Owen's. Take a bow Mr. Wright. We are all so very stoked for you.

2. CJ Hobgood Retires, Goes Out A Legend

The 2011 World Champion has announced that the 2015 season will be his last. On the island of Tavarua during the Fiji Pro he sat down with Ronnie Blakey to discuss his career and his decision to end his World Tour career on his terms. And, wow, what a great interview. Props to Ronnie Blakey for an excellent interview, and further cememnting himself as the world's best surfing commentator/on screen personality, and props to CJ for being a legend of the sport. Love the way he says, "I don't want to rob someone else of an opportunity that could change their life, you know, because I've already lived my dream." Hang on a moment guys, I've got somehting in my eye...

3. Fiji Tournotes

As Derek Rielly said during the week, a World Tour event has not truly finished until we get the Tournotes video from it. Inner sanctum pro surfing candidness from the contest of the year.

4. Bethany Hamilton Had A Baby

At risk of going all TV Week Tabloid on Australia's no.1 Surf Forecasting website, we're reporting here about a baby. But how can you not get caught up in the inpiring and always feel good story of Hawaiian star Bethany Hamilton. Hang on a second guys, I have something in my eye.

Blessed to welcome our son, Tobias, into the world. Born June 1st, 7.9 lbs. and 21" Long. He is named after his great grandpa Tobias meaning "The goodness of God." Adam and I so in love with our lil guy and are stoked to share life with him! #stokedmomma Photo: @TimmyHamilton

5. Disillusion, Little Doco On The Pass

An interesting piece on the crowds at Byron Bay, which while warning about the dangers of overcrowding place actually just kinda sorta makes me really want to head back there and get a couple. Stray observation: That surfer's facial expression at 5.02 is the most stoke-infectious thing I've seen since, well, Owen's win on Tuesday, but still, STOKE!

6. Nix Nic Nooley Is Now For Sale

Yes, the best movie since Doped Youth is finally available. The modern classic by Toby Cregan and Creed McTaggart can now be yours to own on DVD so you can play it in your DVD machine by simply heading to their website and exchanging money for it. Do it.

7. Gudauskas Bros Do North Africa

The Gadauskas Brothers hit Morocco for another ep of what is proving to be the best surf/travel show ever.

8. Jay Davies, The Wildcard

This is has been somewhat of a breakout year for Jay Davies, and you can’t not be stoked for the guy. He’s kind, enthusiastic and hard working. On top of that, he surfs like a man posessed. This clip comes from Red Bull’s new Made In Australia series and it’s a pretty nice mix of West Aus home life and surf action.

9. 15 Minutes of Thundercloud

If you haven't seen Thundercloud, I can not implore you enough to seek it out and watch it. It's the best Australian surf doco since Bombora, easily. Here is a 15 minute snippet from the movie to get you fired up for it. Thundercloud is currently retouring the country, which is great because it really is a film best seen on the big screen. Check the tour dates and grab yourself a ticket.

10. Andy Irons At Cloudbreak

With Cloudbreak being the focus this week, the WSL took it upon themselves to reflect on one of the greatest performers there in history. Mr. Andy Irons. “He’s missed,” as fellow Kauian Sebastien Ziets says. He sure is.

And that was this week in surfing. Have a good weekend everyone. CW out.
