Bruce At Pipe, Herb & Nate Fletcher Go To Baja, & Bells Is About To Be Won – This Week In Surfing
Ten Things From Surfing & The Internet On The Week That Was April 1, 2016
1. It's Femme Finals Day At Bells Today
As this is being written, Bells is pumping flawless lines into the contest zone of the Rip Curl Pro. It's finals day for the girls and left in the comp is Sally Fitz, Carissa Moore, Tyler Wright, Courtney Conlogue, Johanne Defay and Tatiana Weston Webb. THe men's side of the event have seen all of the favourites and past winners (except for Mick Fanning) torn apart by rookies and the new guard. Wilko, Julian, Mick and Davey Cathels are the remaining Australians in Round 5. Below is Carissa Moore's knockout 9.4 this morning.
2. Herbie and Nathan Fletcher, Peninsula South
A beautiful short clip by Australian auteur Riley Blakeway following the legendary father and son down to Baja, Mexico for their first time down to the fickle peninsula in over 20 years.
3. Jeremy Flores On The Gold Coast
Frenchman Jeremy Flores has won two World Tour events in his career. Pipe and Teahupoo. So it's safe to say he loves giant hollow lefthanders and can charge. Voila, here he is in a Gold Coast beachbreak.
4. Not Surf, But Sea Urchins
Excellent surf lensmen Morgan Maassen turns his camera to his old man makes a short documentary on him (he harvests sea urchins for a living). It’s a brilliant portrait of a man who loves and works in the ocean. He also looks uncannily like Dennis Hopper.
5. Dorian Rips The (Relative) Small Stuff
THis feels... weird. Shane Dorian in anything less than a million foot surf makes me feel like that time I accidentally forgot to take my socks off when I stepped in the shower. It's not uncomfortable, but it is strange.
6. BL vs The Ice Man
As part of the festivities around the Rip Curl Pro was of course the heritage heat, which this year went down between Sydney World Champions Barton Lynch and Damien Hardman.
7. Stuey Kennedy Is Your Working Class Hero
If Wilko’s win was the story of WSL’s stop 1 at the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast, then the underdog performance of Lennox Heads’ Stuey Kennedy runs a close second. This week WSL did a nice little piece on the dude and the way he stares into space as he prepares for his heats confirms that Stuey Kennedy is not a man you want to get in a fight with. Angry eyes!
8. RVCA In Hawaii
Jay Davies, Alex Knost, Ellis Ericson, Kalani David, Danny Fuller Bruce Irons and more in RVCA's highlight edit from the last North Shore Winter. Classic surfing, classic clip. Have a look at the spray on Bruce's board on the very last wave. Familiar?
9. Body Glove In Hawaii
And now it's Body Glove's turn for their North Shore Winter highlight edit. Who's in the Body Glove team? Oh, just two of the best barrel riders / GoPro jockeys on the planet in Jamie O'Brien and Anthony Walsh. Also, Tatiana Weston Webb, who is a smokey to win Bells today. You watch.

10. Lee Wilson Joins Brixton
And this is his welcome to the team edit thing. You'll never guess where he's ripping in this clip. Is it Bali? Yes. Yes, it is.
And that was this week in surfing. Have a good weekend everyone.
