Now... the things! Hooray for the things! Exclamation mark!
1. Invisible Surfboards, Maybe Your Favourite Clip of 2016... Maybe
Finally! Creativity! Creativity in surfing! From Foster Huntington comes this super expermintal effort where they have painstakingly edited out the surfboards underneath each riders' feet, to bring us one of the most original edits in years. The invisible surfboard riding is done by Muricans Trevor Gordon, Ryan Burch, Spencer Gordon and Travis Adler. Like most great creative feats in surfing, this was first done in skate. So, sure, the legendary Spike Jonze did this in his 2003 Girl skate movie, Yeah Right!, but who cares? Still rad.
2. US OPEN! Keely Takes Down The Champ
America! Trump and Hillary are getting set to face off in the weirdest election ever, and the world is about to implode, but before then the land of the free is in the cold clammy grip of the US Open of Surfing, that behemoth of a surfing event. Somewhere amongst the dust storms and the grovelling slip of Huntington a QS 10,000 goes down for the men, and a CT event for the ladies. The CT has World Title implications, and the quarter-finals have been decided, with Title front-runners Tyler Wright and Courtney Conlogue both still in the mix. Other strong contenders have been Lakey Peterson in her return from injury and perhaps looking the strongest in the event so far, Steph Gilmore strong too, and Aus rookie Keely Andrew claimed the big scalp of Carissa Moore in Round 4. Tyler Wright and Courtney Conlogue must be oh-so very stoked about that one.
P.S. Get behind one of the Mitches, Crews or Coleborn, for a US Open win to kickstart a 2017 CT (re)qualification.

3. Metal Neck 2 Trailer
Language warning. The Bangover. It's a risky business, the sequel. Sometimes they're better than the original, like The Godfather. Sometimes, they are on par, like Wayne's World. But often times, they should never have been made, like Anchorman, Zoolander... Speed. Where Doheny and the crew and Metal Neck no.2, The Bangover, lands, we will see, nevertheless it's always great to have something that keeps surfing a little stupid and ridiculous in our ever increasing pro-surf world.
4. Harry Bryant Levels Up
Sunny Coast's great Aussie larrikin, Harry Bryant heads south for Zion wetsuits and shreds to the sick psych sounds of Ty Segall. Harry's got a really nice mix of a power launching off the lip akin to Noa Deane, boy does he get some pop, and an innate tube riding ability. He's levelled up in this clip, and it's going to be great to see him progress from here.
5. Sweet Chile Sandspit
This clip is over a week old, which is ancient in the age of the computernet, but fun empty waves in beautiful places are a timeless. Red Bull's Capture The Shot series, nails the spirit of adventure while that sandspit nails the fun-as-hell lefts. Cut to 4.20 for the gold.
6. Jackson Coffey In The Mentawai Islands
Young Gold Coast up and comer Jackson Coffey scores in the reliable island chain. POV barrels in crystal green water? Check. Big slow-motion airs? Check. Drone footage of Macaronis? You betcha bottom dollar, this is a Ments edit, isn't it?

7. Maxime Huscenot and The Beachbreaks of France
Maxime Huscenot's new video part... Little story, back around January 2010, we saw the first glimpses of the Brazillian next generation that'd take over the world. With Owen Wright a shock early exit in the World Junior Titles at Narrabeen, Gabriel Medina and Jadson Andre were mowing up the field, landing air-reverses with a consistency that had perhaps never been seen in competition before. Medina had flow, Andre had the confidence of having already qualified for that year's CT. The two met in the semis, and it was a glorious see-sawing heat. The oft forgotten part of all this is that neither of them went on to win the World Junior title that year. No, Jadson, who won the all-Brazillian semi, was quietly beaten by this unassuming Frenchman in the final. Maxime Huscenot. But will we ever see him regain that comp form and join the CT?
8. The Beachbreaks France Part 2
This time with Marc Lacomare. Some absolute nuggets threaded in this clip by another young 20s QS grinding Frenchman. Also, smoothies and gym training stuff. Everyone loves smoothies and gym training stuff. Is it strange to have a free-surfing edit that's all about training for competition. Kind of brings surfing into the world of inspirational Nike ads, or something like that.
9. Alana Blanchard and Leila Hurst In Mexico
When I sleep, I dream of righthand, sand-bottom Mexican pointbreaks. When I wake, and wait for the stove top to heat the coffee pot, I stare absently into the distance and I dream of righthand, sand-bottom Mexican pointbreaks. When I sip that coffee, turn on my computer and watch clips of righthand, sand-bottom Mexican point-breaks, I deam of righthand, sand-bottom Mexican pointbreaks. One day... *voice cracking* one day...
10. Taylor Steele's New Project Looks The Goods
The legendary Taylor Steele is working on a new film and it looks blody tops, mate. it's called Proximity, and pairs up icons of surfing with similar stars of the right now. Pairings like Shane Dorian and Albee Layer, Rob Machado and Craig Anderson. This here is a behind the scenes clip focussing on cinematographer Alejandro Berger. Spring 2017 is the release date, and we can't wait.
Bonus... Grom Stoke Is The Best Stoke
Biggy Norris, one of the epic little Norris gang, baby bro of Sabre Norris, came in from a surf with Mick Fanning the other stoked out of his mind that Mick pushed him into the best wave of his life. Classic facials! Classic grom-stoke!
And that was this week in surfing. Have a good weekend everyone.
