SURFAID | Aloha For Indo Film

"This isn't something that ends when we leave."

Three mates from Kaui to Suma on a surf trip.

They went with the intention of providing the Sumba communities with clean drinking water filters. When they got there they discovered the filters weren't going to work as successfully as they hoped, but discovered SurfAid and Stephen Nolan were working on something much bigger and more sustainable that was really making a difference.

One-quarter of all children in Sumba die from dysentery from unclean hands and the transferral of bacteria. The SurfAid team are working to innovate, empower and support the communities of the wave rich area.

Dr Stephen Nolan and his team of medical students have created something very special that will change the future of all people in Sumba.

Dr Nolan said "What we really need to do as a surfing community and understand is that change is only effective when you have long-term sustainable development. What I’ve just described is welfare; we need to distinguish between welfare and development. Welfare is giving for the purpose of giving without any long-term change. Development is empowering the people over a series of years and generations so they see long term sustainable change."

You can help be part of this incredible innovative development through SurfAid's Surfing Chefs Charity night on Wednesday 9th March 2016 at the Bucket List, Bondi.

An amazing evening of gourmet food and fine wine prepared by award-winning celebrity chefs who share a common passion of surfing and supporting humanitarian aid organisation, SurfAid. The Surfing Chefs, who all donate their work, will serve up an exquisite multi-course degustation menu sourced from the finest local produce.

Featuring; Mark Occhilupo (1999 WORLD SURFING CHAMPION), Rod Kerr (BONDI RESCUE), Tom Walton (THE BUCKET LIST), Russell Blaikie (MUST WINEBAR, PERTH), Ben O'Donoghue (BILLYKART KITCHEN, BRISBANE), Massimo Mele (CATERING BY MASSIMO MELE), Ian Oakes (DRAKE EATERY), Stephen Scott (CHARING CROSS HOTEL), Gianluca Donzelli (PIZZAPERTA, THE STAR), Logan Campbell (JONAH'S), Matthew Butcher (MORRIS JONES, MELBOURNE). And hosted by Mark Beretta.
