On Friday 27 May 2016, 12 corporate teams of surfers from the Sydney region descended upon a crisp, perfect Bondi day for the SurfAid Cup. It was already a winning day before the event started with a phenomenal fundraising amount of $87,000 raised to contribute to SurfAid’s mother and child health programs in remote villages in Indonesian surfing locations: Nias, Mentawai islands, Sumbawa and Sumba.

“The SurfAid Cup Bondi has been embraced by the local community. We are so grateful for the outstanding efforts in raising over $87,000 for SurfAid. The money will provide clean water, health education, and mosquito nets. SurfAid provides practical, low cost, yet high impact solutions. Days like today show that surfers can make a real difference and give back to the places we love.” said Andrew Judge, SurfAid’s CEO.

The crowd was entertained by hilarious commentary from Bondi Comedy Duo Silky and Bush, (Cooper ‘Silky’ Silk and Craig ‘Bush’ Markham) Judges were impressed with the level of surfing from all the competitors. Pro surfers included Matt Griggs, Chris Friend and Blake Thornton, and Bondi Lifeguards Harries Carroll and Nicola Atherton.

It was the Bucketlist team who took out the surf team award and Macquarie Bank who raised the most money. Congratulations to all teams and surfers on a fantastic day.
