Welcome to Australia Brad Gerlach! After making the move across the Pacific and setting up camp in Torquay. The former world number two surfer has had a fairly lucrative career made up of professional surfing, big wave tow-surfing, travel, acting, coaching and expedition. Now at 50 he's Down Under and getting involved with SurfAid's Surf Aid Cup charity teams event.

The SurfAid Cup first started in 2010 and has since become an annual event in Sydney, Newcastle and Margaret River. Corporate teams work to raise funds to assist with crucial humanitarian aid work in the Mentawai, Nias, Sumba and Sumbawa. The team who raises the most money is awarded the opportunity to surf with a pro surfer of their choice with the aim of winning the surf contest component of the event. The action-packed day is always full of an incredible energy and the funds raised are directly funneled out to immediately impact the lives of mothers, children and remote island communities that we visit to enjoy lush surf.

Since it's initiation the SurfAid Cup events have raised over one million dollars and are continuing to make a significant impact on affected regions.

How to get involved? Spectators are welcome at Dixion Park, Newcastle this Friday 24th February from 9am - 3pm. Teams can still be supported via the SurfAid Cup Everyday Hero page RIGHT HERE:
