COASTALWATCH | COMMUNITY

Following the news from Port Macquarie regarding the local council burying a dead whale this week, a monthly Port Macquarie Hastings Council meeting has been held.

Concerned residents and pivotal community members attended the meeting on Wednesday 20 September with a petition that contained over 3,000 signatures and 35 pages of comments.

Spokesperson Corey Enfield presented to the council and councillors, the refusal by the community to accept the carcass remained buried at Nobby's Beach.

It has been reported that from the meeting, all parties have agreed that there should be an immediate resolution to exhume the whale carcass in the interest of the safety and well-being of the Port community.

In an effort to demonstrate the power of the people working with local government, locals are hoping that they can get as much assistance as possible to get the process moving.

What can you do to help if you live in the Port Macquarie / Hastings region? Stewart Clark and others have a couple of suggestions for you.

1. Let the council know you appreciate them listening and acting on your concern.

2. If you're a contractor who has skills or machinery that could assist let council know

3. If you're a farmer or property owner that would take some nice whale fertilizer buried on your property, let the council know.

4. If you've got any other ideas or resources, let the council know.
