Northern NSW Regional Morning Report: Updated Saturday 16th January: The SSE wind change moved through just after lunch. Now way more protected in the southerly protected corners with nicely groomed point waves especially on the outgoing tide and low tide at 4..45pm. Knee to waist E swell. Early this morning it was North To North Westerly wind in early although we are expecting a southerly wind change throughout the day. The Easterly swell has shed a little more size and power overnight, offering up small knee to waist high sets across the exposed beaches, but mostly sub-rideable inside the points until the S wind change comes through. Best off on the wide-open beachbreaks and more protected in the northerly corners. We had an early low tide at 3.30 am with an incoming tide this morning and a big high tide at 10 am making for good beachies on offer but poor on the Points. Keep an eye out for the S wind change.
Rest of the Day Outlook: The Southerly change has greatly improved surf on the southern points. Surf Forecast - 1 – 2ft / 1 – 2ft+ E. Small easterly tradewind swell crosses over with slight SSE windswell. Early NW winds briefly fade to light W/SW, prior to a S/SE change in the morning. SSE windswell bumps up later.
Coastal Waters forecast - Strong Wind Warning for Saturday for Byron Coast. Winds North to northwesterly 20 to 30 knots shifting southerly during the morning then tending southeasterly 15 to 25 knots in the middle of the day.
1st Swell Southerly 1 to 1.5 metres. 2nd Swell East to northeasterly around 1 metre.
Weather Partly cloudy. The chance of a thunderstorm.
Tides L 4.43 am ( 31) H 11.35 am ( 1.69) L 6.10pm (.31).
