Sydney regional surf report 7am Saturday, 16th January: Clean but small surf on offer should improve on the incoming tide after a low tide at 5am with an incoming tide this morning and a big high tide at 11.30am. A WSW wind perfectly offshore on the wide open beachbreaks which are catching more swell in the knee to waist high range. There's a mix of short-range south and NE windswells in the water - producing clean, knee to waist-high sets, albeit pretty slow in the upper range. It's not much, but looks inviting for the early. Light land-breezes are seeing clean conditions, worth getting out for the early. Rest of the Day Outlook: Surf Forecast - 1 – 3ft / 2 – 3ft+ S swell direction, 7 – 8 sec intervals. Stronger pulse of S windswell peaks in the morning, possibly rebuilding in the late arvo. Max size at south-facing breaks, smaller elsewhere. Early WSW winds tend SW/SSE, then lighter SE/E later. Coastal Waters forecast - Gale Warning for Saturday for Sydney Coast Winds Southwesterly 25 to 35 knots decreasing to 25 to 30 knots before dawn then tending northeast to southeasterly 15 to 25 knots in the morning. 1st Swell Southerly below 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 2 metres during the morning. 2nd Swell Northeasterly 1 to 1.5 metres. Weather Sunny. Tides L 5am ( .51) H 11.26am (1.83) L 6.05pm ( .34) Weather synoptic - A slow-moving high-pressure system over the eastern Tasman Sea extends a ridge towards the Queensland coast. A strong southerly change located near the Mid North Coast will move northwards into Queensland in the middle of the day.
