Gold Coast Regional Morning Report: Sunday 17th January: A SSW breeze first thing with a slightly smaller swell this morning turning a little more ESE in direction knee to waist high on the Points and waist-high on the open beachbreaks. Plenty of surfing options first thing. Make the most of it coming off a low tide at 4 am and the next High tide at 11 am. Will improve with the incoming tide.
Rest of the Day Outlook: Expecting SE winds for later turning on favouring southerly protected corners and holding in the knee to waist high size.
Surf Forecast. 1- 2ft /1 -2ft SSE - Residual East tradewind swell crosses over with slight south swell. Early light SW/SSW winds turn moderate SE during the day, then easterly around 10-15 knots in the afternoon.
Coastal Wind forecast – Winds Southeasterly 15 to 20 knots turning easterly 10 to 15 knots in the early afternoon.
1st Swell Southerly below 1 metre inshore, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres offshore during the morning.
2nd Swell Easterly around 1 metre.

Weather Synoptic. A high [1014 hPa] near New Zealand maintains a weak ridge along the southern Queensland coast. A trough over southern inland parts moves offshore of the southeast coast Saturday with a weak southeasterly change moving up the coast in its wake. The trough moves back inland of the coast over the weekend as a ridge develops along the coast on Sunday.
