    Summary
Monday and Tuesday’s solid run of southerly groundswell well and truly exceeded expectations; peaking on Monday in the 4 to 6ft range across southern exposures before easing a foot or so in the afternoon. A renewed pulse of longer-period groundswell moved in overnight at peak periods of 15 seconds; producing slower, but still powerful 3 to 5ft sets on Tuesday morning, before gradually scaling down again into the afternoon.

This event resulted from a deep WSW flow supported by a slow-moving frontal low that traversed east to west, deep below Tasmania on Saturday before stalling well southwest of NZ’s South Island on Sunday and Monday, before finally drifting further away to the southeast on Tuesday. While the trend in south swell from this point onwards is down, we should continue to see fun-sized south-swell arriving at more accessible levels on Wednesday and Thursday – and we should start to see a stronger south-easterly bias in direction becoming evident, in line with the eastward shift of the storm-track into New Zealand longitudes.
