    Summary
The presence of a slow moving surface trough extending across southern Queensland and an associated low pressure system located off the northern NSW coast is currently offering very little in the way of surf across the region. Most of the resulting ESE and SE wave-action is confined to locations south of the trough/low – in this case impacting the NSW coast with notable size from about Port Macquarie south.

Never the less, there was some minor spread in south-swell amounting to 2 to occasional 3ft at the more south facing breaks on Wednesday – and this energy should continue at similarly low-levels on Thursday. While that doesn’t bode well for locations north of Byron, there is some better news on the forecast horizon. The low/ trough is still supporting a weakening ESE fetch off the central and southern NSW coast in conjunction with a high pressure system over the southern Tasman Sea. This high will gradually emerge as the dominant synoptic feature as the trough weakens out into the end of the week – and as this occurs, we’ll see a modest easterly tradewind belt developing throughout the northern Tasman and southern Coral Sea.
