    Short-Term Analysis

The eastward movement of a developing low over Victoria and Bass Strait on Friday led in a strong SW change during the day: marking the start of a pretty bleak run of surfing conditions across the state all weekend. The low’s development followed a deep upper cold-pool burgeoning below the mainland over the last few days. As the low shifts east into the Tasman Sea this weekend it paves the way for a firm high pressure ridge and robust SW/SSW airflow, rendering conditions thoroughly blown out across all coasts.

Windblown, mid-range SW swell offers up sub-part conditions all weekend: Mid-sized, short period SW swell is thoroughly butchered by strong SW winds up to 20 to 35knots on Saturday morning. Sunday offers up similar, albeit slightly more accessible conditions as a large, blocking high builds in below the mainland, maintaining a moderate SSW airflow and hence choppy and disorganised conditions across all coasts throughout the day.
