VEGEMITE Surfgroms Makes A Splash At WhiteWater World On The Gold Coast
The world’s first national junior participation surfing program VEGEMITE SurfGroms broke new ground on Saturday at Dreamworld’s sister water park, WhiteWater World on the Gold Coast.
VEGEMITE SurfGroms allows youngsters aged 5-12 years old an opportunity to learn to surf while developing strong ocean awareness and beach safety skills at a very influential period in their lives that they will enjoy and embrace for a lifetime.
Now in its second year, more than 8000 children have enjoyed the program on beaches throughout Australia since its launch in September 2011.
Saturday’s lesson was conducted by Get Wet Surf School at the Cave of Waves wave pool at the popular Gold Coast water park, WhiteWater World.
“We are so excited to be able to offer the VEGEMITE SurfGroms program this year in the Cave of Waves at WhiteWater World,” said Kerri Jekyll of Get Wet Surf School.
“We have been conducting surf lessons in the wave pool since 2007 and it still takes my breath away watching the lessons.
“Crystal clear water, a perfectly formed wave at the exact size we need them to be every two seconds, always prefect conditions so the participants get to catch loads of waves.”
Get Wet Surf School has previously conducted surf lessons at WhiteWater World, but this will be the first time the VEGEMITE SurfGroms program is held at WhiteWater World.
WhiteWater World Aquatics Supervisor, John Davis said the water park’s wave pool, Cave of Waves is the perfect learning environment for grommets.
“The wave pool provides ideal and safe conditions for beginners and all lessons are conducted under the watchful eye of a WhiteWater World Lifeguard.
“WhiteWater World is a celebration of the unique beach and surfing culture inherent in the South East Queensland and Australian lifestyle so it is fitting that we offer surf lessons in our wave pool and are hosting the VEGEMITE SurfGroms program,” said Mr Davis.
VEGEMITE SurfGroms programs are available through the Surfing Australia Surf Schools Network with more than 80 delivery centres around the country. Parents can register their children through the website - www.surfgroms.com.
VEGEMITE SurfGroms is proudly supported by VEGEMITE, Quiksilver, Wahu, Surfing Australia, the Australian Sports Commission, Surfing World, Coastalwatch and Channel 9.
