10 Things Surfing Gave The Internet This Week
Presented by Brashs, remember for all your electrical appliance needs, The Answer Is Brashs

Arranged by Mike Jennings

We made it guys! We got through another week. We're all 7 days older, 7 days wiser and we all get to live to see a whole nother million hours of The Voice on commercial television... or not. Anyway, here are ten things from surfing this week. Yay.

This epic framegrab comes from one of the best clips to hit the internet this week: In Winter's Arms.

1. Shippies

Exactly one week ago (at time of publishing) 14-year-old Central Coast surfer Riley Laing scored the barrel of a lifetime at Shipsterns. Many other epic waves were ridden and this video of the day is the stuff of brave hearted men flirting with the jaws of raw Tasmanian nature.

2. Surfer Survives 27 Hours Floating At Sea In The Mentawais

In the woah-that's-crazy-amazing story of the week, a South African surfer by the name of Brett Archibald fell off his surf-charter while seasick at about 3.30am and then floated unaided for roughly 27 hours before being miraculously rescued. "Woah, that's crazy amazing," you might say. You can read the full interview with Brett Archibald recorded by super handsome Surfing Life editor Chris Binns here.

3. Surfing Australia Is Off The Drink

Surfing Australia announced on Wednesday that they would be joining the Australian Government's Be the Influence - Tackling Binge Drinking initiative. Who better to be surfing's face of that then Sally Fitz (love you Sally). Try and say no to this face...

And here be the full video:

4. Kelly Surfs The Suburbs

Kelly Slater appeared in a suburb of Sydney's Northern Beaches on the first day of school holidays and got tubed with about 30 groms in a sunny Autumn line-up. He also rode a motorbike. How good are school holidays? It's like being unemployed but instead of being depressed you have a house full of food and your friends probably still like playing Nintendo... sigh...

5. Billabong XXL Wipeouts and Best Performances

The nominees for both the Wipeout of the Year Award and Best Overall Performance Award at the Billabong XXL Big Wave Awards have been announced and there are some corkers. Our highlights are definitely the two Asutralian wipe-out entries: Brett Burcher's body-surfing effort at WA's The Right and Chris Shanahan's soul arch floater at the same wave. Both can be enjoyed in this little edited package.

And how bloody good is Greg Long's barrel at the end of this highlights package? Outrageous.

6. Out In The Line-up

You hear about how New Zealand's parliament voted to legalise same sex marriage on Wednesday night? Big news. What's that got to do with surfing? No more than anything else except that in the same week this trailer came out for the Australian made documentary on homosexuality in surfing. Topical.

7. Owen Wright at P-Pass

Owen Wright can ride a big ol' tube… yes indeed he can. Hey, question… if the ASP had a World Tour event at P-Pass, who do you think would win?

8. Julian Wilson Orders Desert

Ahhh, a nice edit of Julian Wilson ripping (with bonus cameo of the legendary Mitch Ross)… Surf films are east huh you just need a good filmer, good editing, the rights to a decent song and access to one of the world's most elite surfers. Easy. P.S. I'm pretty hungry right now and that avocado toast looks amazing...

9. Bottle's 24 Hours On The Gold Coast

Watch Jay Bottle Thompson spend 24 hours on the Gold Coast. What do you think he gets up to? If you guessed get barrelled a lot, you are right and you should go treat yourself to a Cornetto or something. You deserve it!

10. In Winter's Arms

Clips from Ireland are usually cold big wave affairs shot beautifully. This is no exception. Start a fire and thaw your numbed toes… Winter is coming.

Bonus Extra Thing...

Why if it isn't in the trailer to the next 21 Days series by Red Bull, this time starring Adriano De Souza and rookie Nat Young as they lead into the Billabong Pro Rio.

And that's it. Have a good weekend. CW Out
