Ten Things The Internet Gave Surfing The Past 7 Days
Presented by Coca Cola

Hello, hello. It's Friday. It's cold. We want to go home. Eat fish and chips. Watch footy. Do Friday night things. Wake up in the morning, don thick rubber and get barrelled somewhere. Drink coffee, read the Saturday newspaper. Indulge in an Egg Benedict somewhere with extra avocado and a generous serving of hollandaise, then go surfing again and try and keep all that down. Yeah! This weekend is going to rule. But before all that let's take stock of everything the internet gave surfing this week (like Jacob Wilcox winning the U/16 Boys in the ISA World Juniors, and Soli Bailey taking Silver in the U/18s). COUNT IT UP!

Seabass, surfing's new cult hero surfing at Keramas on Thursday night.

1. John John

Oh man, John John. John John and an event at Keramas, a match made in surf-porn heaven. On the ropes courtesy of Seabass, he pulls this giant Alley Oop, the greatest performed under the constraints of a World Championship Tour heat rashvest.

And our good friends at Stab compared it to some of the other greatest alley-oops with this clip.

But alas, as impressive as it was, it did not impress the mainstream media's mainstream audience. An article on Yahoo Sport about the feat received a barrage of comments similar to this:

2. The Rest of The Oakley Pro Bali

The Oakley Pro Bali has run Round 1 and Round 2 in less than perfect Keramas, but the highlights speak for themselves in regards to just how loony the ASP elite can go on this wave. By fina;s end we will have seen some ridiculousness.

3. Original Shippies

Filmmaker Dave Otto recently uncovered an old hard drive with a heap of golden old Shippies footage. He says, "Covered in a thick layer of dust, and lying at the bottom of an old mouldy box I didn't hold much hope but plugged it in anyway. Bang!!! we had noise and after 5 minutes of creaking and moaning, and a constant high pitched squeal that sounded like a cat was dying, it finally loaded. I recovered about 50 files but the other 400 or so were toast." Rad.

4. International Surfing Day

Yesterday was International Surfing Day in Australia, and today it is International Surfing Day in other countries that sit behind us in time. Don't ask us how it works, it's some sort of Marty McFly Back To The Future hootenanny. Anyway, Oakley, made this sweet little video in tribute to the day.

5. Kalani Chapman and Chopes

GoPro footage from massive Teahupoo? Why not?

7. A New Dane Reynolds/Marine Layer Clip

Dane Reynolds released a new clip and it is up to the super high standard that past Dane Reynolds clips have set as a precedent so congratulations to Dane Reynolds on continuing to succeed at being Dane Reynolds. You can only watch it on his site over here… please come back.

8. Mason Ho At Jay Bay

Who makes some of the most entertaining surf clips on the internet? If you answered Zoltan Torkas you would be correct, but that is not who we are talking about here. No, we are of course talking about the super awesome Mason Ho. Mason is definitely our favourite Hawaiian surfer, especially if you also include John John, Seabass, Makua, Freddy P, Carissa Moore, Bruce Irons and Gerry Lopez as our favourites too. You can watch it over here.

9. More From The Wedge

The dirty ol' Wedge. What great fun it is to sit at your computer or hold your portable media device aloft and watch short films of this amazing wave. So much entertainment. So much drama. So much sand lodged in the folds of skin and neoprene.

10. Padang Padang

Rip Curl released the trailer to their event at Padang Padang. If you like barrels, you'll sure like this trailer and the event to come (if you like barrels? Who doesn't?).

Bonus Thing...

Poor old Travis Logie didn't make it to Keramas for the Oakley Pro Bali but he did manage to make this Instagram. We love.

And that was this week in surfing. CW out.
