Durbidge to don club hat at Be the Influence Australian Boardriders Battle this weekend

Gold Coast, Queensland Tuesday 29th October, 2013 – North Stradbroke Island’s Bede Durbidge will take a short break from the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Tour and don his Point Lookout Boardriders hat this weekend at the Be the Influence Australian Boardriders Battle Queensland State Qualifier.

Durbidge, ranked 21 in the world, will surf for his beloved club as they battle against Queensland’s most prestigious boarding clubs for a slice of the $5,000 prize purse on offer and a crack at the National Final to be held in Cronulla over next year’s Australia Day long weekend.

“I’m really happy to be able to come home from the Tour and surf for the club. Boardriders clubs give most Australian surfers their first real taste of competition and contribute a lot to nurturing talented surfers,” said Durbidge.

The Be the Influence Australian Boardriders Battle has been sanctioned by the ASP, giving professional surfers like Durbidge the opportunity to put their hand up to compete for their respective clubs and give spectators a chance to watch some of the best surfers in the world compete on their doorsteps.

In total, $105,000 is up for grabs across the entire National Series including the National Final. There is $30,000 available across the seven State qualifying events, while $75,000 will be split between the 16 clubs that make the National Final.

The Be the Influence Australian Boardriders Battle also includes a Monster Raffle giveaway with one lucky ticket holder to drive away in a new Toyota RAV4. Other prizes include a Billabong pack valued at more than $1500 and a Nikon 1 AW1 camera valued at up to $1000. The Monster Raffle is open to all Surfing Australia affiliated boardrider clubs with proceeds returning to the boardriders club community.

The Be the Influence Australian Boardriders Battle is proudly supported by Be the Influence – Tackling Binge Drinking, Billabong, Toyota, Nikon, Surfing Australia, the Association of Surfing Professionals, Coastalwatch, Surfing World and Surfing Queensland.
