Ten Things From Surfing and The Internet On The Week That Was April 17, 2015

As I write this they're running the Round 1 of the Drug Aware Women's Margaret River Pro in about a jillion foot waves. They keep getting sets on the head and it looks kinda sorta terrifying. Meanwhile it's Friday night and I'm eating chips and am equally scared and excited for the mayhem this event has been throwing down the last three days. It has been epic. But before we get into a weekend of more West Oz ocean mountains, let's check out the ten things that made up this week of surfing on the Internet.

1. Margarets Has Pumped, Surfers Have Been Slammed

The Drug Aware Margaret River Pro has been happening and there have been lots of things. Some of the things happened at a wave called The Box and some of the other things happened at Margaret River's main break. World Champion Gabriel Medina will be disappointed with an early exit forced by surfing the tricky righthander on his backhand. However, Adrian Buchan and Owen Wright proved goofy-footers can dominate heats there too. But guys, the best story out of the event so far has got to be Jay Davies. The local hulk-like freesurfer won the Trials for the event and then quickly went about ending the run of World No.1s Filipe Toledo and Mick Fanning. The second best story has been the utter carnage the strong swell has unloaded on the event. Wipe-out of the event so far has got to be Adam Melling's dish to the face below. YOUCH!

2. North Point Fires

After they ran Round 1 of the men of the Drug Aware Margaret River Pro a buncha dudes including some unknown types by the names of Kelly Slater, Mick Fanning, Jay Davies and Jack Robinson headed over to North Point and totally scored.

3. Stu Gibson Drones A Long Tasmanian Right

The only thing that could make this little perfect long righthand pointbreak wave, shot by drone and surfed by an unknown, and better is if smoehow we got Bruce Brown to narrate it. As of right now, this is my new life-goal. Stay tuned for my Kickstarter.

4. Kolohe Releases Movie Trailer

Kolohe didn't have a great week this week guys. He got knocked out of the comp and late at night he got all bummed and posted this to Instagram:

"onward and forward? no. i aint happy with my results. i dont feel good about them. i hate losing. some things have gotta change. i gotta build better habbits. work harder. simplify my damn life. lets hear what you gotta say now haters. nothing i haven't already heard. never did it for you anyways. did it cause i love it. 1:37am here and i cant sleep. leave me alone while i work. i can do all things through"

Bummer. Good thing he released this epic trailer to the movie he's making with our dude-friends at What Youth surfing internet and print magazine.

5. The Pipeline

Ahhh Jed Smith and his show The Pipeline. What a classic this guy is. He loves surfing so much. So much he makes internet Youtube shows about it and then releases them for us to all to watch, for free! This episode wraps up the first two events of the Australian leg and some of the  epicness that has gone down at infamous WA wave, The Right.

6. Carissa Makes A Young Fan Cry

And it's the cutest thing that has maybe ever happened. Hurley's Tour Notes series wraps up Bells, and as per usual it's the best candid inner circle footage from surfing available.

7. The Box Before The Comp

Josh Kerr, Noa Deane, Joel Parkinson, John John and Sebastian Zietz scored the infamous wave before the WSL started running heats out there.

8. Matt Banting Between Bells and Margarets

No rest for the wicked for Port Macquarie's WSL rookie. He filmed this clip in two days somewhere south of his home and bagged some serious clips.

9. Jordy Lawler In Samoa

Young Narrabeen shred-head goes to Samoa (formerly American Samoa), he shreds it, eats it some Samoan (or American Samoan) reef, and continues shredding.

10. Wake Skim!

Skimboarder Austin Keen does epic skim to boat wake and then does a giant shov it. I have no idea if this is good or normal skimboarding. But I do know that it's definitely a thing.

And that was this week in surfing. Have a good weekend everyone. CW out.
