Headlands, Presented by the Lennox Arts Board
Lennox Head Community Centre Sunday, 18 October from 6pm - 8pm

Love the raw, authentic experience of super-8 footage? Imagine watching it some of Australia’s legendary surfers from the seventies interlacing down the long Lennox Point lines, projected on a big screen matched with the sympathetic live sounds of Murray Paterson and his 6-piece band.

This Sunday at the Lennox Head Community Centre you can settle down and be part of something pretty special. “Headland” a musical performance lead by Murray Paterson and collaboration between 3 filmmakers; Mick and Tracy Donovan, Steve Barrett and Rick De Armitt will draw you into a world when crowds weren’t and issue and surfing meant big rail turns and a unique style and grace that has arguably been lost in mainstream surf.

Murray says the performance is a beautiful way to connect with surf culture and music “Historically, the footage on Lennox Head, Byron Bay and Broken Head are amazing and to watch unknown locals gliding down the point mixed in with Nat Young and Russell Hughes criss-crossing down the line is something really special.”

The music is an perfect mix of acoustic harmony, written and lead by Murray himself and includes acoustic guitar, drums, bass, electric guitar and strings, lap steel as well as a accordina played by friends and musos from around the country. "The beauty of the music is that it’s written in response to the films, there’s nothing else like it.” Says Murray

In response to the truly classic nature of the production an English record company has produced a vinyl EP of the Headlands so that if you can’t make it to Lennox Head on the weekend you can indulge your ears in some soulful tunes.

What about this bonus, Bob McTavish will be curating a local collection of 70's surfboards in the centre. The evening will be a total surf frothers indulgence. Turn up in your best 70’s get-up and you can grab a free craft beer from the bar.
