SURFING WORLD | EventSurfing World Camp 2016

Words by Vaughan Blakey

The modern world is crazy loony fast. Information is constantly hammered into us from digital portals driving us to get things done at greater and greater speeds. Even right now reading this, you’re brain is being fried by electrical currents and your body overwhelmed by invisible wi-fi streams demanding that engage, like, buy, comment, click, wait for something to load and never ever sleep.

Whatever happened to our leisure time? When do we afford ourselves the simple pleasure of turning off and tuning out? Where can we light a fire, chill with friends and loved ones, listen to groovy tunes and trim a few perfect curlers in the spectacular surrounds of native Australian bush?

The answer to all these questions (except the first two) is of course: at the 2016 Surfing World Camp. Last year the Surfing World Camp took us back to a time of simple pleasures. We mingled under the trees, we listened to amazing bands, we rode all sorts of boards and got the lowdown on their performance aspects by the shapers who created them. At night we talked story with legends, watched classic surf movies, danced like we were in the 70s and slept under the stars. We did yoga, we meditated, we surfed our brains out and in the end we reinvigorated the feeling of community that once defined us as a culture.

This year the Surfing World Camp is back and it promises to be… not one bit bigger or better than last year… well, it might be better but honestly last year was so awesome we just want to nail that vibe all over again. One thing is for sure it will be best three days and four nights in surfing history, especially if you’re there. In fact, only if you’re there. If you’re not there you’ll never know.

This March 31st Surfing World returns to Treachery Camp Seal Rocks. We have the best shapers in the country bringing a heap of boards for you to demo. O’Neill are bringing their latest suits, All Press are bringing the coffee cart, Future Fins are bringing every fin in their range.

The Babe Rainbow will be jamming into the evening with psychedelic sound waves, legendary Bronzed Aussie and the first World Tour Champion Peter Townend will be telling us about the birth of pro surfing and his days on the set of Big Wednesday at an evening Talk Story. Dave Rastovich will be hosting an evening with Dr Arne Rubenstein about how to help raise good boys into great men. And there’s more, so much more, all to enjoy or ignore because how you experience the SW Camp is totally up to you.

If all you want to do is build your tent climb inside and not come out until everyone leaves then hooray for you! But we’ll miss you, because SWC is all about sharing the stoke of being a surfer.

Sound like something you’d like to be a part of? Book your ticket right here!
