Boat Tripping In The Southern Atolls

Report by Richard Kotch for World Surfaris
Photographs by Ali Ahmed and Richard Kotch

After eight seasons at Lohis in the North Male region of the Maldives, I finally had the time and opportunity to venture further afield and explore the Southern Atolls.

On the journey south I was joined by a mixed crew of surf-stoked guests from World Surfaris and my good friend, Maldivian photographer Ali Ahmed. Ali is a young surfer who is fast gaining a great reputation for his work at Lohis and Hudhuranfushi. Ali is one of a small band of Southern Atoll local surfers who grew up on the island of Gadhdhoo and came to love the ocean surfing at Tiger Stripes. Perfect waves broke just meters from his front door, enticing him into an all-immersive world of surf and the ocean.

Here is a selection of shots from the trip.
