29-year-old surfer, Ben Gerring was attacked by a shark and lost part of his leg at Falcon Beach in Western Australia on June 4 2016.
The man was assisted from the water at 4pm and given CPR by locals before paramedics arrived at the beach. It has been reported that he will be sent to Royal Perth Hospital due to the extensive injury sustained to his leg that was said to be "bitten off" as quoted by a local cafe staff member who provided ice to the first-aiders.
Witnesses at the scene reported that there were approximately 20 surfers in the lineup at the time of the attack at the popular surf spot just up the road from Pyramids where another shark attack occurred in October 2015.
Falcon Beach will likely remain closed until Surf Life Saving Victoria and Sharksmart Western Australia advise otherwise. For all the latest official information about this attack and shark sightings in Western Australia visit Sharksmart.
Gerring passed away on Friday 3 June due to complications from the attack.
