COASTALWATCH | Surf Forecast

It's 40ft at 12 seconds off Crowdy Head, NSW this morning proclaimed Nick Carroll on social media! NSW remains stuck in torrential rain and gail force winds with majority of beaches gnarly, white-water, slopsville, presenting pretty dangerous conditions.

Sydney's surf reporter Ben Horvath says "Wild and windy storm surf - nowhere to really ride in these howling NE winds. Weird storm with NE winds hey. Not even any novelty spots really worth sussing in this wind. There are some waves at Nth Bondi that are kinda out of this wind and a tiny wave at Neilson Park - but it needs the tide to drop and the wind to swing more SE - NE is not great for Neilsen and it's only small. Forget it and sit it out this morning and hope the wind shifts later." SEE FULL FORECAST HERE

Queensland's rain has cleared & the sun. The Sunshine Coast is pumping in areas. Surf reporter John Charlton reports "The low has tracked south and it has fined up with W winds and the swell is solid from the ENE in the 6-8 ft+ range with bigger sets and a bit messy. Strong W winds are forecast today with high tide at 8am and low at 1.45pm. There is a lot of water moving about, it's quite dirty also and there's not a lot of value early. Try the points later on the dropping tide as it cleans up and it is for the experienced only." SEE FULL FORECAST HERE.

THE BREAKDOWN

SUMMARY: heavy E to NE swell event impacts the Eastern Seaboard on Sunday and Monday.

SWELL ORIGIN: A complex surface trough deepening over the eastern interior forms a strengthening ENE fetch in conjunction with a high-pressure system over New Zealand.

PEAK SWELL: Potential for a phenomenal 10 to 15ft peak in NE storm-swell across Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong on Sunday.

BEST DAY TO SURF: Potential for huge, clean surf on Monday as still very large ENE swell combines with westerly winds across Newcastle, Sydney and the South Coast.

SURFABLE AREAS: Very Dangerous/ treacherous conditions for all coastal users statewide throughout Sunday as strong onshore ENE winds limit clean options to the most sheltered south facing beaches.

- Still dangerous/ challenging conditions for surfers throughout Monday and Tuesday

- Excellent surfing options likely across exposed beaches as the swell subsides from Wednesday to Friday
