Birthday celebrations are going to be extra special for the Rip Curl Pro this Easter, with the announcement that the 34th annual surfing festival will host an all-new live music concert onsite at Bells Beach over the four-day April long weekend.

The Rip Curl Pro is Australia’s most prestigious surfing contest and is one of the most recognized sporting events in the world. It is one of six Victorian Government-designated Hallmark International Sporting Events held in this state each year – an honor it shares with the Melbourne Formula 1 GP, Phillip Island Moto GP, Australian Tennis Open, Melbourne Cup and the AFL Grand Final.

This year’s exciting live music element is sure to strengthen the event even more, providing Surfcoast locals and tourists with the perfect holiday experience during the Easter celebration.

Running from Friday April 14 to Monday April 17, the Rip Curl Music Festival will feature a host of Australia’s hottest musical acts and several international guests. The live stage will be constructed in the Bells carpark, overlooking the Southern Ocean and WCT surfing action. The opening acts will play from midday, with the headline acts finishing each day around 6pm.

Headlining the gig will be keen surfer DJ Greyboy, who is one of the USA’s most respected producers and is excited about visiting Victoria’s world famous surf break.

Joining DJ Greyboy as headliners will be Sydney-based band Faker. The rockers have earned recent praise for their debut album ‘Addicted Romantic’, which was nominated for a 2005 J Award.

Other artists on the gig list include TZU, True Live, Ash Grunwald, Tom Jordan, Nick Barker, Rob Sawyer, Beau Young, MJ Taylor, Dead Frenchmen, Spirit Store, Carus & The True Believers, Bad Boy Boogie, Husky and three-time surfing world champion Tom Curren.

“The music festival is going to rock” said Andy Higgins, Rip Curl's Group Events Manager. “Torquay is such an exciting place to be during Easter and I think the work we’ve done to grow the event this year is going to make this Easter one to remember.”

“The Rip Curl Pro has always been acknowledged as one of our country’s greatest outdoor spectacles and the music stage is only going to add to in 2006 event organizers are encouraging surfing fans and music fans alike to converge on Bells for this year’s event.
