The first 10 days or so of the NSW school holidays (July 7-17) in Sydney and surrounds were the best, most consistent of the year to date.

And that run of winter swell and sunshine just so happened to co-incide with one of the best times of the year for stoked out grommets – when school's out.

It was sunny, offshore and pumping pretty much 10 days in a row until it all dried up on Tuesday afternoon July 17.

Prior to that we enjoyed two successive double overhead blasts of swell from the south.

The first episode kicked in on Sunday July 8, peaking at a solid 8-10ft on Monday July 9.

As the swell slowly abated, the beachies delivered beautifully clean 3-5ft waves for the rest of the week, before another solid 6-8ft Sth episode kicked on Saturday morning July 14.

These quick snaps of Cronulla were taken on Sunday July 15 as the swell settled into the 3-5ft range with all day offshores.

Whilst many groms on school holidays attend tennis camps, football and soccer camps that set parents back hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars, kids that surf got to enjoy their local beach/fun park for free. Yeeow!
