Nominations are invited for the 2009 Australian Surfing Awards incorporating the Hall of Fame Inductee

Surfing Australia is inviting the surfing industry and community to nominate for the 2009 Australian Surfing Awards incorporating the Hall of Fame Inductee to be held on March 3rd 2009.

There are 11 award categories presented on the night with 8 categories inviting nominations from the Australian surfing industry and community. Nominations are now being invited in these categories:

Simon Anderson Premiere Club Award
To recognize a boardriding club that has exhibited an outstanding level of club performance in the areas of
1. Administration,
2. Competition results and structure,
3. Environmental contribution and awareness,
4. Community contribution and involvement,
5. Junior and women’s development programs
6. Support of Surfing Australia / State Branch programs and activities.

The Stan Couper Award (formerly Duke Kahanamoku Award)
To recognize an individual who exhibits a commitment to promote and support Surfing Australia activities (at club, state, national and international levels) above and beyond normal expectations during the 2008 calendar year.

Industry Award
A person, persons or organization which has continued to support the growth of the surfing industry through financial and non-financial philanthropic contributions in the areas of community, environment, humanitarian aid and junior development during the 2008 calendar year.

Lifestyle Award
To recognize an individual who has shown a dedication to the lifestyle continuously throughout their lifetime. The winner will have demonstrated a long term and continuous devotion to the sport and/or the lifestyle of surfing via active participation, and/or surf travel, and/or their achievements.

Pioneer Award
To recognize a person, group or organization that through the application of an idea and commitment to a project has broken new ground plus contributed to the enhancement and “stoke of surfing”.

Photo of the Year:
To recognize the best surf photo taken by an Australian in 2008.

Movie of the Year:
To recognize the best surf movie produced or directed by an Australian promoting Australian surfing.

Surf Culture Award:
To recognize an outstanding contribution to surfing in the area of media and or creative design which includes websites, board sprays, artworks, museums or other areas
