Broken Head breaks the drought

“There wasn’t a single space in the car park at Broken,” said Mark Abriel, who documented the North Coast point’s return to form earlier this week. “Every surfer from Sydney to the Gold coast knew it was on… but it was worth it. “

Though the rotating crowd saw 50-70 people in the water at any one time, Mark reckons the relentless swell saw everyone getting a share.

“It’s the best conditions that I’ve seen for a long time. Broken is an iconic Australian break but it hasn’t been doing it much over the past few years.

It wasn’t that perfect offshore, line-to the-horizon stuff, but you could see it shaping up out the back then reeling through the inside like Snapper. I haven’t seen it like that since 2007,
