Forecast Issued Tuesday, August 13, 2019

Even in mid-winter the surf gets pretty small across Indonesia – but usually not for long. The usual pattern features a single day of tiny to near-flat conditions before it bumps up again the following day – and that’s indicative of what’s happening in the near-term. As at the date of this forecast, wave heights were looking very small across the Archipelago; featuring small waves mostly in the 1 to 2ft+ across the more exposed breaks under light winds.

That pretty much marks a low-point in wave-activity – at least over the next week – if not the remainder of August. Having said that, the surf is still likely to be pretty user friendly for the rest of this week. A minor uptick in SW groundswell on Wednesday and Thursday should see pretty tame, 2 to 3ft conditions across exposed breaks, ahead of a stronger pulse arriving throughout Friday and the weekend; holding better potential for sets in the 4ft range. As discussed below, there are firm indications a stronger round of SW groundswells will move in early next week, leading in a series of sizeable, overlapping pulses out of the 220 degree band into the final week of August.
