Groms Ripping For Day 2 Of The Rip Curl GromSearch Presented By Telstra With FIVE:AM In Cronulla

The second day of the four-day Rip Curl GromSearch welcomed the ever enthusiastic 12 & under division to small, but consistent waves on the ‘Midway’ section of Cronulla beach between Wanda and Elouera.

Early heats got the best conditions of the day with Jay Brown (Lilli Pilli, NSW) using a devastating backhand approach on the clean right-handers to top score for the division with a 16.17 combined total.

Keanu Miller (Bulli, NSW) was also impressive with some strong surfing that pushed Central Coast surfer Caleb Tancred (Avoca, NSW) into second place in the highest scoring heat of the day.

Hinata Aizawa (Dee Why, NSW), Max McGuigan (Chifley, NSW) and Mikey McDonagh (Lennox Head, NSW) were also heat winners and top performers for the day.

Alyssa Lock (Tweed Heads, NSW) led the 12’s girls into the lowering tide and promptly scored a 16.50 total for the highest heat score of the day.

Kirra-Belle Olsson (Copacabana, NSW), Macy Callaghan (Avoca, NSW) and Kiara Meredith (Illawarra, NSW) were the other girls applying the pressure.

Both the 12’s and 14’s girls division surfed their second rounds with all the girls fighting for a place in the finals. Big performances from Alysse Cooper (Queenscliff, NSW) and Laura Poncini (Sunshine Coast, Qld) saw them move in to the final four of the 14’s division with Billie Melinz (Coalcliff, NSW) and Kiana Dobbyn (Palm Beach, Qld).

The FIVE:AM Combi was onsite handing out masses of flavoured organic yogurts to all competitors, family, friends and spectators.

Supporting the event, Polaroid cameras gave each competitor the opportunity to be in front of the lens and snap their mates in the surf or testing the Penny Skateboards.

A number of DHD Surfboards were on offer for each competitor to check out and gain feedback from DHD representatives about their own boards.

All divisions are on hold for Day Three. Please call the event hotline on 0458 247 212 at 6:00am tomorrow morning.
