The young Elouera (66.40) team finished six points clear of North Narrabeen (59.53) with Avalon (56.77) finishing third and Queenscliff (38.8) fourth.

Elouera controlled the one hour tag team final from the beginning with their first surfer Jesse Horner scoring 17.67. Shane Campbell was next to hit the water for EBC extending their lead with 18.1 which was backed up by third surfer Jared Hickel’s 15.03.

Surfing fourth and fifth for EBC were their two under 14 surfers Nathan Martin and Nathan Rohr. Both controlled their nerves under pressure with Martin scoring 7.5 and Rohr 7.1. Rohr also received one bonus point for finishing back in the tag area before the one-hour time limit.

“So stoked we won. I didn’t think we would have gone that good with so many strong teams competing.” Said Campbell.

Going into the Final Elouera had posted the highest score of the day, a massive 89.2 in Quarter Final 2.

“Our confidence was building during the day and we backed each other up and worked as a team. We couldn’t have done it without our team manager Glen Pringle, he psyched us up before each heat and his experience really helped us out.” Said Campbell.

11 year-old Nathan Rohr who was chaired up the beach after the win by members of EBC was nervous before each heat. “I am very happy, it was good to watch the older boys surf before me and get a few pointers from them. Jared Hickel was two spots ahead of me in the team so after he surfed he showed me where to sit for the lefts that where coming thru.” Said Rohr.

North Narrabeen (NN) had to play catch up during the final with their first surfer NSW Under 18 Champion Jordy Lawler (7.8) unable to find waves with good scoring potential. Earlier in the day Lawler posted the events highest individual score in Quarter Final No. 4 – 27.83 that included a perfect 10-point ride on his Powerwave.

NN’s second surfer Jamay Evans was a standout in the powerful conditions at North Cronulla. Evans locked in the highest individual score during the final – 19.4 that included a 7.5 on his Powerwave.

Connor Gale was Avalon’s best during the event scoring 13.74 in the final. Avalon had narrowly beaten Elouera in Semi Final No. 1 but due to a slow start where unable to match the local Elouera team in the Final.

Queenscliff (QBC) also suffered from a slow start sitting in fourth position the entire Final. Fifth surfer Alex Hayes was QBC’s best in the Final scoring 9.23.

Twenty teams contested the 2012 SurfStitch Gromtag with event organizer Steve Harrison looking to expanding the under 18 event in 2013.
