Baker And Nichols Win 2012 Rip Curl GromSearch National Final

Jackson Baker (Merewether, NSW) and Isabella Nichols (Coolum, Qld) claimed victory today in the premier 16 and Under Boys and 16 and Under Girls divisions in the National Final of the 2012 Rip Curl GromSearch series presented by Telstra on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.

A lingering one-metre swell graced Coolum Beach, with Baker (16.50 out of a possible 20) avenging yesterday’s final loss in the Queensland leg of the competition, by walking away with victory over Luke Hynd (Burleigh Heads, Qld – 14.34)  and Kai Hing (Wurtulla, Qld – 6.17) who finished second and third respectively.

Isabella Nichols (15.27 out of a possible 20) took out the 16 & under Girls National Final by less than half a point, pipping Holly Wawn (Newport, NSW – 15.03), Sophie McCulloch (Alexandra Headland, Qld – 9.83), Cali McDonagh (Lennox Head, NSW – 8.50) and Laura Poncini (Caloundra, Qld – 7.50) who finished second to fifth respectively.

Baker and Nichols will head to Victoria in 2013 to represent Australia at the International GromSearch final, held in conjunction with the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Championship Tour Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach.
