Sixteen corporate teams have raised more than $150,000 in the OzForex SurfAid Cup which will be held at Queenscliff Beach, Sydney, this Friday 1 November.

Sydney’s corporate world will line up with three former world champion surfers - Layne Beachley, Tom Carroll and Damien Hardman - and two Rugby League legends - Andrew Johns and Mark Gasnier - in a tag team surfing event to raise money for humanitarian organization SurfAid.

Former top professional surfers competing are Simon Anderson, Luke Egan, Rob Bain, Matt Hoy, Richie Lovett, Toby Martin, Matt Bemrose and Jarrad Howse plus lifeguard Ryan “Whippet” Clark and local rippers Ben Hamilton and Dan Karren.

SurfAid board member Charlie Lanchester said he was delighted that all the teams have really got behind the OzForex SurfAid Cup this year. “Congratulations to OzForex, who not only came on board as the lead sponsor but also are well ahead in the team fundraising competition,” Lanchester said.

“To have already raised more than $150,000 is an incredible effort by all the teams and one that will really make a difference to the remote coastal communities of Indonesia.”

Simon Anderson, inventor of the three-fin Thruster, said he was looking forward to the OzForex SurfAid Cup and hoping for good surf conditions at Queenscliff. “I've been working on some small wave, all-round board designs that should suit two to three foot Queensie,” Anderson said.

“It will also be good to catch up with the other pro and celebrity surfers to see what's under their feet. I also find it interesting to see the level of the corporate guys and how they equip themselves to help get the most out of their surf opportunities.”

Business heavyweights who have registered to compete include:  Andrew Landman (Managing Director, BlackRock), Stephen Dunne (Managing Director, AMP Capital), Gregg Piercy (Executive Director, Thakral Capital), Madeleine MacMahon (HR Director, AMP Capital Investors), and Mark Burmeister (Managing Director Head of Global Capital Markets, Morgan Stanley).

Neil Helm, the CEO of event sponsor OzForex, said they are honoured to be involved in this year’s SurfAid Cup.

“We are stoked to be able to support this incredibly important cause through sponsoring the SurfAid Cup at Queenscliff Beach, Sydney,” Helm said.

The 16 competing teams are:  OzForex Foreign Exchange, Perpetual, Shaw Brothers, Crown Clowns, The Heavyweights, Citi Frothers, AMP Capital-1, AMP Capital-2, oOh!media, Aquabumps Shredders,  CBA, Paradice Investment Management, ToyBell, BlackRock, Allan Hall Business Advisors and Surfing Lawyers.
