Day 2 of the Billabong Pipe Masters in memory of Andy Irons has had more than it's fair share of drama and action today.

At the start of the day former Pipe Master and top 5 in the world, Bede Durbidge from the Gold Coast suffered a serious wipeout in his round 3, heat against Hawaiian Keanu Asing.  He was stretchered off the beach and rushed to hospital with his wife by his side.

“It was really hard to see Bede wipe out this morning.” Said WSL Commissioner Kieren Perrow. “He slammed straight into the reef and has unfortunately fractured his pelvis in 2 places, in the front and back. He is going into surgery today and is with his family at hospital."

"Durbidge is a former Pipe Master and he has been back surfing with 100% form this year" Said WSL commentator Peter Mel.

Sending well wishes to Bede and his family ahead of his surgery and rehabilitation.
