Noosa Festival of Surfing: Ray Gleave was a standout on day one of the Surftech Men's Pro ALC division

The Noosa Festival of Surfing got underway with the AUD$10,000 Surftech Men’s Pro, an Australian Longboard Circuit (ALC) event.

As expected the clash of the titans, CJ Nelson (Huntington Beach,California, USA) and Seb Wilson (Coolum Beach, Qld, AUS) provided an excellent prelim for spectators, the duo giving a blow by blow account during their first up encounter at Sunshine Beach, Sunshine Coast, Qld) this morning.

The Stylish Queenslander utilizing local knowledge to rack up a winning combination of 8.73 and 7.90 out of a possible 20.

CJ too, showed why he is one of the main contenders collecting two 7 point rides to also progress into the round of 16.

Other standouts included Bart Wilson (Coolum, Qld, AUS), Jye Byrnes (NSW), Troy Brown (Caloundra, Qld, AUS), Japanese Champion Eugene Teal and the Gold Coast’s Ray Gleave who had the large crowd cheering with his great performance.

In the amateur 9ft division, English champion James Parry and (Noosa Heads, Qld) local Gavin Robinson became the first two surfers to progress to the quarter finals of the Classic Malibu Amateur 9ft today. Joining them are Matt Bryant (Sunshine Coast, Qld), Sam Dunton (Victoria), Lindsay Althorn (Coffs Harbour, NSW), Andrew Withers, (NSW), JJ Starr (NSW), Malakai Mitchell (Noosa, Qld),Ryan Clark (Yallingup WA).
