The inaugural World Surf League sanctioned Siargao Women's International Surfing Cup has wrapped up at the famous Cloud 9 right-hand reef break in the Philippines.

Newcastle's Philippa Anderson (sister of free surfer Craig Anderson) claimed her second victory in as many years at the spot, despite the event not being sanctioned in 2016.

The Aussie girls were in full flight through the final stages of the event with Freya Prumm, Mikaela Greene and Anderson making up three out of the four semi-finalists.

Despite conditions not living up to perfect Cloud 9, the girls had a number of days of three-foot offshore swell. The 36-minute final was a battle between Australia's east and west coasts as Greene held the scores up with consistent mid-range results Anderson waited patiently for something special. It was an 8.17 that was backed up with a 9.0 that solidified her win and another successful event at Cloud 9 for her.

“This has been a fantastic event, all the girls have been surfing great and I’m really relieved to take the win here,” Anderson said. “In the final nothing was going to plan early and then suddenly in the last 10 minutes I found the waves I was planning on, surfed them as powerfully as I could and took the win - It’s been a great time here for all of us!”

As the first ever WSL sanctioned all women’s event in the Philippines it was regarded as a huge success by competitors and officials who eagerly look at returning to the paradise location of Cloud 9 in September for a proposed QS3,000 Men's event.
