The WSL returned to the loveable sandbottom rightpointer of Arugam Bay Sri Lanka last week for a QS 3000 event, the first major QS there since Julian Wilson won there in 2010. And in keeping with tradition, fellow Queenslander Mitch Parkinson took out the event. Mitchy dominated the final, scoring a near perfect heat total of 19.17. In second place was longtime friend of Parkinson, Indonedia's Oney Anwar. The win is the biggest of Parkinson's career.

Other highlights include a solid performance from young Kiwi Kehu Butler just missing out on the final, continuing to improve on the world stage. As well as, of course, Mark Occhilupo joining the comp. The 1999 World Champ finished third in his Round 3 heat with a respectable score of 8.74.
