East Coast: Anzac Day, April 25, 2009
The best day of waves this year!

Saturday April 25 was a very special day

Not just because it was a day of remembrance and respect for the fallen, and those that fought for the freedoms we enjoy in this sun and surf drenched land, but also because it was without question the best day of waves in NSW this year so far.

It was flawless from dawn to dusk.

The sun shone, the water was a mild 22 degrees and the wind blew offshore Westerly all day.

The swell in Sydney was a long period ESE groundswell in the 4-6 ft range.

At first light it was more like 4-5ft with the odd rogue 6ft bomb every now and then.

As the tide dropped out by mid to late morning it was a super hollow 5 or 6ft on the sets.

Suburban Sydney beachbreaks were doing mighty fine G-Land impersonations.

The south coast was bigger and better still. Down south the swell was pretty much straight East.
All sorts of reefs, pointbreaks and bombies were off tap.

The fact that we haven’t enjoyed a day like that for yonks made it all the more special. It was an epic day.

Friday April 24 was pretty good too. It was a solid 3-5ft with NW to NE winds.

There were plenty of waves right up and down the East coast all last week.

It was much bigger, cleaner and better on Saturday though, except in Qld.

We all know how good the points in Qld and Northern NSW were last week. If you haven’t seen last weeks East Coast: April 18 – 22, 2009 Meltdown feature, do check it out. There are some crazy pics and a strong vid as well.

On Friday April 24 and Saturday April 25 the focus on the Gold Coast shifted to TOS as winds swung NW. Straddie was pumping

The south coast of NSW was the place to be though. It was all time. The photos do not lie.

We will remember April 25, 2009 for a long long time, and we will remember them.
