Hurley NSW Championship Circuit 2009
The Dripping Wet Pro has arrived yet again and Freshwater Beach will be the venue this weekend to catch some of the hottest junior surfers in the country.
Having seen the junior and cadet divisions called off in May, due to dangerous seas and unsafe conditions, the rescheduled event will see Australia’s best junior surfers going ballistic in search for cash and precious Hurley NSW Championship Circuit ratings points.
With $500 up for grabs the Dripping Wet Pro will offer the state’s elite an opportunity to compete for serious monetary rewards.
''The Dripping Wet has always attracted a strong line-up of junior surfers and 2009 is no different,” said Event Director, Adam Hennessey.
“After a six-week hiatus all systems are go this weekend as we look to finish off what has been already an amazing event.”
Led by the teen sensation, current State and National champion, Cooper Chapman (North Narrabeen, NSW) the cadets division will see a strong contingent of local juniors vying for glory.
“Having been in tremendous form of late Cooper Chapman will be the one to watch.”
“He will lead a very strong field of 16 years and under competitors who will battle it out at Freshwater,” Hennessey continued.
Also taking place over the weekend, on Sunday, will be the Junior division (under 20 years) which will see the next wave of professional talent strutting their stuff.
With the likes of ASP Australasia Pro Junior standouts Davey Cathels (North Narrabeen, NSW), Steve Ahrens (North Curl Curl, NSW), Ryan Callinan (Merewether, NSW), Sam Paterson (Killarney Vale, NSW) and David Vlugg (Narrabeen, NSW) looking to take home the title, the Junior Division will be a knock ‘em down, drag ‘em out affair.
Currently in it’s six year since inception, the Dripping Wet Pro has consistently since world-class athletes thrive in the consistent, punchy beach-break; one of the Northern Beaches jewel’s.
“Over the years Freshwater has always dished up great waves and if the swell hits it in the right direction the banks offer a world class wave,” said Henessey.
“With $500 up for grabs, the action will be intense from the opening heat.”
The Cadet division will be on standby to commence at 6:45am on Saturday, 8 August 2009.
